I say, “Good mornin’, Honey” – And you say, “No it ain’t”

I put on my hat to go downtown – You fall into a dead faint

I’d like a little piece of peach cobbler – I’ll probably get humble pie

I just can’t seem to keep you satisfied – No matter how hard I try

I’m doin’ the best I can, woman – But you keep settin’ me up to fail

It’s like tryin’ to build a house with a ball peen hammer

And a Taiwan ten penny nail

I bring home pretty flowers – and you turn up your nose

I try to offer suggestions – You give me that “go to hell” pose

Compliments sure ain’t workin’ – They just seem to turn you off

When I talk about how we used to be – All you do is scoff

I Feel like I’m incarcerated – With no way to make my bail

It’s like tryin’ to build a house with a ball peen hammer

And a Taiwan ten penny nail

They say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” – But this needs fixin’ bad

What used to be such a wonderful thing – Ain’t nothing but doggone sad

As I look out this empty bedroom window – The future is all too plain

I see more storm clouds brewin’ – And they all be filled with pain

I’m ready to take this whippin’ post – And put the damn thing up for sale

It’s like tryin’ to build a house with a ball peen hammer

And a Taiwan ten penny nail
